Sarah and Ben's Canadian Adventure 2

Alright so after that first day which was very crazy indeed to say the least with the wine mix up and plane delay's, our trip continued on. Over the next week Sarah and I enjoyed lots of amazing experiences while in Canada with my Grandpa Duke.

The next day we went to go pick up the mixed up wine order for a wedding and then had a nice dinner at a place called Angelo's that night after dropping it off. The day after that we slept in and showed Sarah around the beautiful, stone house. We also had dinner with a wine expert named Bill Arthur were Sarah and I talked to his daughter and her friend and discovered a new drink in the process called a porch monkey, (no racism meant by the name just what they called it) which consists of beer and lemonade mixed together. It sounds disgusting but is actually quite good. That night we also watched the penguins and red wings game 7 to see the penguins lift the cup!

The next morning Sarah and I got up early and took the train into Toronto where we would stay the night and probably have one of our more jam packed parts of the trip as far as the amount of stuff that we did. While we were in Toronto we checked into our hotel, the Delta Chelsea and dropped our bags off so we could explore Toronto. We caught a Blue Jays game which was very exciting because it was my first Major League Baseball game. The Jays lost by on run but it was still a lot of fun! After the game walked around visiting a couple stores. Sarah found some clothes she like in one little boutique that Rhianna had been known to shop. I also bought a urban-retro shirt with a Maltov cocktail on the front.

After the majority of shopping was done, we found a little Japanese restaurant to eat lunch and rested our feet enjoying some hibachi and sushi. Then we walked around China town where Sarah got some souvenirs and I a bubble tea. Once we had finished our walk through China town we were exhausted and headed back to the hotel. On the way back though we ran into a Filipino culture festival that had all kinds of food and art as well as an Filipino idol contest where this one tiny girl absolutely blew the show away. They announced she was close to signing with a record company and had sung the national anthem at the Toronto Raptors game many times. Finally after getting back to are hotel we took a quick nap before going out on the town to experience Toronto's night life. We went to one area along Yonge street, (pronounce "young") that was like times square with all kinds of lights and big signs. Then we hit the clubs just hopping from one place to the next ordering a drink here a drink their. After feeling a little under dressed for some of the higher end clubs we found a bar with a band and enjoyed a couple ZZ Top tunes while drinking 3 dollar pints. Finally we ended the night by splitting a Martini at the hotel bar, went up to are rooms and went to bed.

The next morning we woke up and caught the train back to Saint Mary's where Grandpa Duke picked us up. Sarah and I dropped off our bags, changed into our swimsuits and headed to the beach at Grand Bend which was about 45 minutes away. The beach was nice and hot which made the cold water feel especially good. We had lunch at a nice little place by the port and spent a couple hours on the beach before heading back to the Stone House (Grandpa Duke's). Grandpa Duke told us that he wanted to take us out to dinner somewhere but wanted it to be a surprise. We showered and got all dressed up to go only to discover while we were getting in the car that the Subaru had a flat tire! I pumped it back up with a hand pump and called upon my inner MacGyver sticking my gum on the leak which miraculously enough stopped the leak or at least slowed it for the time being. We took Nanny's car which didn't have insurance on it and Grandpa took us to one of the nicest restaurant in Stratford Ontario called The Church. It was named The Church because the restaurant was inside of an old church that had been craftily designed to provide both the historical and serious tone of an old church with the color and ambiance of a modern art gallery. We had a great meal there which was free because Grandpa was friends with the owner. That night because it was the first time they were open on a Sunday we had the entire restaurant to ourselves for most of the night. After a fantastic meal we arrived home without getting to an accident in Nanny's uninsured car.

The next morning we were set to drive to my Grandpa Gordie and Nana's house to have dinner but first Grandpa had to take the car into get the tires changed and also run some errands. Finally with a brand new set of wheels we headed off for Kitchener, Ontario where I was born to see my other Grandparents. We enjoyed a nice meal and good conversation there before falling asleep that night.

The next morning we woke up and went to one of our last big destination of the trip; Niagara Falls. While we were there we went on the Maid of the Mist which took us right in the middle of the Canadian side of the falls. Then we walked to the very edge of the falls where we got an ice cream and enjoyed the breath taking view. After walking around some more we grabbed lunch at a Harvey's Hamburgers and then drove all the way back to London, Ontario where we had dinner with Marge and Ernest's family. We had a great dinner there and a lot of laughs including one particular time were Sarah said the Ernest looked like Dustin Hoffman. After a great last night in Canada we headed back to the Stone House for our last night.

We woke up early the next morning and Deeter was waiting with a van to drive us back to Toronto. Once in Toronto, Deeter dropped Sarah and I off at the CN tower where we had lunch reservations. Sarah and I said goodbye to Grandpa Duke and thanked him again for such a great time and we headed off to our lunch inside the tower. We had a great meal while enjoying the breath taking views of Toronto from the 360 restaurant. After words we got a taxi to the airport and headed home.

This was a great trip jam packed with all kinds of exciting things. I am writing this about a month and a half after the actual trip so there are probably some things that I left out but I tried my best. On a similar note please excuse my grammar and spelling. I know it is atrocious. I am looking into contracting an editor for this small little blog. The leading candidate right now is the editor of a small upstart school paper called the Chronicle. Ill keep you updated though :)

Sarah and Ben's Canadian Adventure

Ok I know the name sounds kinda stupid but this is what my Dad called the trip when we were booking the plane tickets on expedia.  This whole trip came about when I was thinking that I really wanted to see my Grandfather, "Grandpa Duke" this summer.  So I started looking at my schedule and the only time that made sense for me to go was in a week, I asked my girlfriend Sarah on a limb if she wanted to go which she said yes but she would have to check with her parents and see if she could take off work.  Mr. and Mrs. S said yes and before we knew it we were heading to Canada on Sarah's very first plane ride.

Thats a picture of the plane right before we got on.  First we arrived in Cincinnati where it was pouring rain and I was very happy we were inside the airport.  The only problem was our next plane wasn't, and while the ground crew where refueling the plane they left the door wide open and according to the lady on the loud speaker the plain was flooded and needed to go to maintenance so we were delayed for about 2 hours until we finally got another plane and flew to Toronto.

When we got to Toronto we were picked up by Deeter who works for Grandpa Duke as his driver and proceed to head off to the LCBO to pick up some wine.  The wine we picked up was a huge load bigger than Deeter thought and he got angry and threatened to quit as Grandpa Duke said like an old gal but than calmed down and helped us take some of the wine to a nice restaurant where we had lunch called Monsoon.  It was a really cool Asian restaurant and were absolutely stuffed after lunch, and we still had a big dinner coming that night at Bill Loins house, one of my Grandpa's oldest friends.  On the drive to Bills house Grandpa Duke realized a mix up in one of the orders and was worried about that for a while but eventually thought of a way to fix it.  After debating the wine mix up we arrived at Bill Loins gigantic house, Sarah described it as a fairy tale house.  Bill has hundreds of horses, swans, and beautiful house and a wife paulette who is funny and a sensational cook.  The dinner she had prepared was huge and we were all still full from lunch at Monsoon.  To start we had white wine and curry shrimp, then we had french bread and butter, short ribs, corn on the cob, salad, brussel sprouts, french cheese, fruit, and for dessert delicious creme brule.  The sad part is that I was so full already I had to shove alot of the food down and was not able to enjoy it.  Oh and on another note they had a bunch of dogs and one dog oscar in particular who was a Great Dane was huge, coming up to about my shoulder.  It was more like a dog than a bear.  After a wonderful evening and a day full of traveling though Sarah, Grandpa Duke and I got a ride from Bill to Grandpa Dukes house, the "Stone House."  Then shortly after we arrived we went to bed.

This is the first post for the Canada trip more to come soon.

Previous Trips of summer possibly coming soon

So I am beginning to plan out how to make The Road Trip to the South posts effective and a good read and I thought that I may as well go ahead and post some pics and stories about my previous trips this summer.  One is particular to Canada to visit my Grandpa Duke I have lots of pictures that would help recreate the trip.  I also went on a trip to Wilmington but there are not many pictures of that trip, but still it would be cool to write about I think.

I dunno, I think I will post what I can this week with the goal of getting at least one trip done, don't know which one yet.  The reason for this is that I am going to be studying stuff for my EMT course hardcore so I can hopefully pass on saturday and then have an amazing time at Tuckerfest that same night.

Well whatever, just getting into this blog thing maybe it will stick maybe it won't, well see.

Story of the Road Trip to the South coming soon!

Alright so I am actually going to use this blog for something and am going to be working on it this week.  Recently me and my two friends/god brothers Will and Patrick just got back from a road trip through the Southern United States.  We started in Greensboro, NC and went through South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama stopping at Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Auburn, Mississippi stopping at Vicksburg, Natchez, and Biloxi, and then Louisiana stopping at New Orleans.  In all it was an awesome trip both that had lots of memorable, crazy, angry, happy, slightly homosexual, fun, musical, enlightening, serious, frat, and so many other kinds moments.  Definitely one I wont be forgetting soon.  What I am planning to hopefully do is around monday start posting the trip up in different posts one for each day of the trip.  Still working out the specific details but hopefully I can post this trip in a cool way and so that if anyone else is interested on going on a road-trip along this route then they have some cool places to stop, or they can just read about the trip.

Alright hope to have first post's up soon.  Stay tuned.
